The Ardwick Education Partnership (AEP) is a not-for-profit collaborative platform between the University of Manchester and the people of Ardwick for sharing knowledge, skills and resources to enhance the lives of local residents.
We are a platform, that is we facilitate and enable, practical work and creative projects between the Ardwick community and the university. We aim to share knowledge and resources of both partners to increase understanding, awareness and activity.
The Ardwick Education Partnership will be working with Ardwick Climate Action, Brunswick Church Women's Group, Trailblazers, and Brunswick residents to support the development of a signposted Ellen Wilkinson Social History Trail.
The aim of this is to support community walking, raise social justice awareness and illuminate often invisible or unknown social history from 1900 to present in the Ardwick community. As part of the project we will be building collaborative research and teaching activities across the university and the local community.
The route will run from the start of the Brunswick estate (original site of Ellen Wilkinsons house) through to the museum and then onto the Ellen Wilkinson building garden located in the quadrangle of the EW building. The trail will feature a series of way-marked signs that will give a summary history of the social justice activity (people places events up to current times) at that location, activity suggestions as well as QR codes on the signs that will take people to a website with much greater detail including interviews, audio and podcasts.
We will also be linking in a series of events and lectures to support this both in the community and the university.
